- Traditional Sparkling
- Riesling
- Mount Gambier, SA
- Bridget Mac | Werkstatt
Wine Description
The 2024 Werkstatt Riesling Sekt is a bubbly, cool-climate gem shaped by the limestone bones of Mount Gambier. Sourced from organically managed vines at Coola Rd in German Creek, just west of the Mount Gambier volcano, the fruit grows in heavy, metamorphosed limestone soils that impart a fine-boned structure and saline edge. Made in the traditional method, there's loads of lemon zest, green apple, a fine, cold stone and a fine, chalky dust… with a taut, mineral drive and soft mousse.
About the Winemaker
- Non-Traditional Sparkling
- Shiraz
- McLaren Vale, SA
- Alicia + Pilar Basa | Sister Act
Wine Description
A bit of sparkle here… From ancient vines, this is a full-bodied and dry McLaren Vale sparkling shiraz that leans clear and generously rich. Ruby-hued with flickers of orange at the rim, it’s all dark plum, blackberry and ripe cherry, with clove, baking spice and smoky cedar keeping things grounded. Fine and energetic bubbles lift the wine’s natural weight, revealing a bright red-currant tang that cuts through the darker fruit core. Very lovely.
About the Winemaker
- Light White
- Fiano
- Heathcote, VIC
- Caroline Mooney | Zonzo Estate
Wine Description
This is a really beautiful Fiano shaped by the long growing season of the Yarra. Grown on Zonzo Estate’s softly sloping vineyards, where the mild conditions allow flavour to build slowly and evenly, it's fresh and generous. Crushed stone, nashi pear skin, fennel, lemon zest, with a lovely almond nuttiness too. It's a bit savoury, a bit saline. Very rounded and especially suited to most things food. A great bottle to start 2026 on!
About the Winemaker
- Medium White
- Chenin Blanc
- Gisborne, NZ
- Annie + James Millton | The Millton Vineyards & Winery
Wine Description
The ultimate expression of New Zealand Chenin Blanc from a vineyard first planted in 1984. Farmed biodynamically from day one, Te Arai sits on the banks of the river in Gisborne where slow ripening and a steady coastal influence build both generosity and line. You all know just how much I love a good Chenin and this one hits all the right spots... ripe pear, stonefruit, zest, distant florals, beeswax. There’s a savoury, meaty undercurrent too... broth perhaps... and the acidity is bright and clipped. Unexpected but completely grounded at the same time. Love!
About the Winemaker
- Medium White
- Chardonnay
- Burgundy, FR
- Clarisse de Sureman | Clarisse de Sureman
Wine Description
The 2023 Clarisse de Sureman Chablis is both fresh and restrained, sourced from organically cultivated Chardonnay grown by respected Chablis authority Thomas Pico. Fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and bottled with minimal sulphur, there's very clear hits of green apple and citrus peel, underpinned by that unmistakable Chablisian line of chalky minerality. The palate is clean, with a slightly taut texture... very charming.
About the Winemaker
- Gewürztraminer
- Hunter Valley, NSW
- Leesa + Samuel Mealing | Bad Neighbours Wine
Wine Description
A gorgeous dry orange wine handpicked with friends and family from a vineyard in Broke over two late-January days. Wild fermented and left to macerate on skins for six months, then matured for a further four before bottling, this Gewürztraminer has been allowed to stretchhhh. The colour alone stops you... a glowing amber, with heady florals, orange peel and dried apricot, something tea-like, and a nice glimmer of ginger that brings everything back to level ground. The extended contact with skins adds lovely grip and complexity. A favourite this month!
About the Winemaker
- Light Red
- Pinot Noir
- Pipers Brook, TAS
- Linda Morice | Sinapius
Wine Description
This Sinapius Pinot beauty comes from two tightly planted, north-east facing blocks (La Clairière and The Enclave) where the vines are packed in at 7,700 per hectare and yields are tiny. The soils are volcanic, the clonal mix is broad (12 clones), and the fruit gently destemmed and left to wild ferment. She leads berry-heavy with red plum and flint, but give her some air and she'll start to reveal her deeper side... dried herbs, forest floor, fennel tops, Chinese spice. Not a plush, easygoing Pinot by any stretch... this one’s all taut, sinewy… built to go the distance. A great bottle to take to dinner!
About the Winemaker
- Light Red
- Pinot Meunier
- Beechworth, VIC
- Ros Ritchie | Ros Ritchie
Wine Description
Hand-picked from Spring’s Vineyard in the high elevations near Mansfield, this is Meunier doing what it does best. Supple and perfumed, a soft ruby-garnet in the glass, it wastes no time luring you in with crushed mulberries and warm spice, before a second wave of tilled earth and soft herbs rolls on through. It’s pretty, but pretty grounded too. Often cast as a supporting player in Champagne, Meunier really shines here on its own, offering something Pinot Noir lovers will feel instantly at home with… juicy, medium-bodied, and just a little too easy to drink. Endlessly appealing.
About the Winemaker
- Heavy Red
- Nebbiolo
- Hunter Valley, NSW
- Meagan + James Becker | M+J Becker Wines
Wine Description
This beautiful Nebbiolo comes from the Freeman Family Vineyard in Young, in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. It leans into a lighter expression, akin to the alpine styles of Valtellina. A cool, extended growing season stretched ripening well into May, building flavour slowly whilst preserving that line of acidity that defines Nebbiolo. Refreshingly light on its feet, it bursts with rose petals, sour cherry and cinnamon... There's some savoury undertones too that keep everything nice and balanced.
