- Non-Traditional Sparkling
- Chenin Blanc
- Margaret River, WA
- Josephine Perry | Dormilona
Wine Description
Everything that Jo Perry touches turns to gold, and this buttery, briochey, lemon sherbety fizzy brilliance, is no exception! It’s like pastry and creamy minerality on the nose, with that signature Margie River salty kick on the palate. Add a touch of honey, lime and fenugreek, she’s killer!
About the Winemaker
- Traditional Sparkling
- Gamay
- Beaujolais, FR
- Florence Subrin | Le Crêt de Bine
Wine Description
Ooh, this is fun! Not your average pink sparkling, this is one of those wines where the smell and the taste are pretty aligned. We got notes of grassiness, white pepper, wild strawberries and stewed rhubarb. There’s a creaminess in the bubble on the palate that makes this a very luscious sip.
About the Winemaker
- Light White
- Müller Thurgau
- Mount Barker, WA
- Kim Tyrer | Galafrey Wines
Wine Description
An interesting Riesling-adjacent variety with a wonderful nose of tropical orange and mango, pear skin, flint and petroleum, levelled up by an unctuous palate of lime cordial, pineapple lollies and waxy texture. It’s super yum, you won’t regret trying it…
About the Winemaker
- Medium White
- Muscadet
- Valet, Muscadet, FR
- Emeline Bergeron + Jérôme Dumanois | Domaine de la Fessardière
Wine Description
Smokey (ash, not campfire), crunchy nashi pear, and minerality for days, this variety was born in Burgundy, but got kicked out and landed in Loire to thrive. And thrive it did! We love the juxtaposition of the smokey, nutty, creamy, flinty, mealy characteristics of this variety!
About the Winemaker
- Medium White
- Chardonnay
- North Coast, TAS
- Sierra Blair | Zymo
Wine Description
The ethereal magic of Tassie shines through in this medium to heavy-bodied white from noteworthy up-and-comer, Sierra Blair. It’s a fascinating study in contrasts - bright, acidic, citrusy & crunchy, whilst being creamy, buttery, textural & generous. Plus, a touch of gardenia...
About the Winemaker
- Orange
- Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay
- Mount Barker, WA
- Bridget Berry | Blonde Crow
Wine Description
Fun, breezy, playful times are to be had with this rascal of an orange wine! A blend of three grapes, some time macerating on skins, it’s got heady aromatics - a bit of peach, dried mango, green tea and struck match on the nose, with a pithy, ginger, guava, musky, grippy palate. De-luscious!
About the Winemaker
- Jumai Genshu
- Kyoto, JP
- Mukai Shuzō |
Wine Description
Ok, stay with us…this pinky/orangey/red-hued liquid is all Vegemite, soy bean and umami salted plum goodness on the nose, but the palate tells a completely different story. Think toffee apple, strawberries and cream, nutty… it’s not a wine, but a wonderful surprise... if you dare!
About the Winemaker
- Rosé
- Negroamaro
- Nagambie Lakes, VIC
- Janelle De Gabriele + Rhen Dodd | Ephemera
Wine Description
Yum, yum, YUM! Wild raspberries, fresh cherries, dried herbs and minerality form the foundation of this pink perfection. Aged in oak puncheons and made ‘Italian-style’, it’s much more like a toasty, buttery Chard, than a light, pale Provençal style, making it an awesome food wine!
About the Winemaker
- Light Red
- Gamay
- King Valley, VIC
- Leila + Crystal Davis, Juliette Menneteau | Foreign Friends
Wine Description
This wine blew Amelia and Dani away. You’d be fooled for thinking you were in France, but no… At first, it’s all feelings - sensual, alluring, captivating, generous, warm, intriguing - followed by dark blue and black fruits, chocolate, hazelnuts, sarsaparilla and sesame. Snooze, you lose, friends.
About the Winemaker
- Chilled Red
- Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache
- Avignon, Southern Rhone, FR
- Anna Tyak + Amelie | Vignerons d’Estezargues
Wine Description
This is the literal expression of the perfect chilled red. Bright, mouth-watering acidity, mulberry jam, light spice, and a touch of meaty oomph. An alternative Southern Rhone blend, that gives you silky yet grippy, and fruity yet savoury components. Watch out, it’ll hook you...!
About the Winemaker
- Medium Red
- Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo
- Clare Valley, SA
- Kerri Thompson | Wines by KT
Wine Description
Love this woman! This wine is one of her two ‘lo-fi’ wines - ‘natural’ in style, but not her natural style - nonetheless, a hella-great expression of a cool-climate, medium-bodied red blend. Thick, oozing, present. Cherry drops, warming spice and red liquorice. Autumn, we’re coming for you!
About the Winemaker
- Medium Red
- Sagrantino
- Murray Darling, VIC
- Caroline Mooney | Zonzo Estate
Wine Description
An Italian variety described by Max Allen as akin to “drinking dried blood and prune juice off a hot terracotta roof.” This cool climate style is savoury, herbal, with coffee beans, tomato leaf, prunes and black pepper. It’s lighter in tannin than normally seen, but the silky style is seriously gorgeous!
