2014 Terre de L’Élu ‘Ephata’ Chenin Blanc MAGNUM - K&P

After a year of frost, very small yields (a small half-harvest) made the juices quite concentrated on the whites, in particular, this release of the Ephata. Always a crystalline wine of great and focussed purity, as it has aged it has taken on some more intense notes. On the name: Ephata, a flagship white, takes on a spiritual meaning, "to be open"; in Greek. It means to be open around the wine, but also love how wine opens people up.
White mushroom, honey and aniseed on the palate, the old vines give this wonderful phenolic grip that gives it a complexity and detail not often seen in white wines. As it opens, as suggested, hazelnut and malt shimmer through, a little dusting of herbs like sage and thyme, and honey, again, so much honey. Just supreme. And especially so in Magnum format!
