This wine expresses a rich, ancient, primordial character; the 75 year-old vines are rooted deeply in their terroir. It has a resplendent nose of blueberries, cherries, eucalyptus, pine, liquorice, dried oregano and bell peppers, which carries through on the palate with a chalky, briny, full-bodied texture.

About the Winemakers
Caroline Meurée + Hervé Malinge | Domaine des Sables Verts

Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge are a young winemaking couple who met while studying in Bordeaux. Despite no family connections to the wine trade, the pair built impressive résumés before striking out on their own — Caroline honing her craft at Château Lamothe in Bordeaux, while Hervé made wine in Saint-Émilion, Burgundy, and Roussillon. In 2019, they took the plunge and purchased Domaine des Sables Verts in the heart of Saumur-Champigny — named for the domaine's unique soils of tuffeau and distinctive green sand. Working 16 hectares of 40-year-old vines with minimal intervention and indigenous yeasts, their wines are a testament to the couple's commitment to the terroir they've made their own.
