The Mount Horrocks Semillon is a Clare Valley classic with a cult following, and it’s easy to see why. Stephanie Toole’s vines struggle on the rocky, low-nutrient Mount Horrocks soils, but that’s exactly what gives this Semillon its focus, depth, and character. The 2024 release is bright yellow-gold, opening with granny smith apple, lemon zest, fresh herbs and delicate florals, underpinned by subtle, textural oak. The palate is crisp yet creamy, overflowing with supple fruit and gentle spice. Clare Semillon at its very best!

About the Winemaker
Stephanie Toole | Mount Horrocks Wines

Stephanie Toole runs Mount Horrocks Wines, and she’s been quietly smashing it in the Clare Valley since the early ’90s. She bought the place on a whim, learned the hard way while raising young kids, and has spent the last 30 years planting, replanting, and perfecting vineyards… always organically and biodynamically, always by hand. Her vineyards sit on rocky, challenging soils that force the vines to work for every drop of flavour, and that struggle is exactly what gives her wines their energy, minerality, and precision. She makes small, precise batches that let the fruit and the site speak for themselves... from bright, textural Semillon to age-worthy Riesling and even Nero d’Avola. Stephanie doesn’t cut corners. She’s about balance, texture, and making wines that are at heart, enjoyable… and her work shows: international awards, five-star ratings, and even a pour at Queen Elizabeth’s 80th birthday (crazy!?). But mostly, it shows in the wines themselves, which are just so very pure and thoughtful.
