  • Lauren Hansen | Bloomfield Wine

Like a spicy little Riesling with more grip and glow. This Grüner is zesty, textural and distinctly savoury... all green pear, crushed granite and a salty lick of sea spray. There’s citrus peel bitterness in the best way - preserved lemon, cumquat, a little alpine herb and vermouth energy. Grown on the windswept coast of Mount Benson, fermented on skins for 3 days to draw out texture and phenolics, then aged on lees in old oak for three months to round it all out. Begging for snacks.

About the Winemaker
Lauren Hansen | Bloomfield Wine

Bloomfield is the side project of Lauren Hansen, though calling it a “side project” doesn’t quite do it justice. It’s the dream-scribbled-in-uni-notebooks kind of project. The “finally doing my own thing” kind. By day, Lauren’s the senior winemaker at Penley in Coonawarra, where she’s part of the crew helping breathe new life into a historic region. She’s been around the wine traps - Austria, NZ, Vic - and she was dux of the Len Evans Tutorial, which is a pretty big deal. Basically, she’s been learning, grafting, floor-scrubbing, barrel-tasting and forklift-driving her way toward this moment: creating Bloomfield, with her dog Morrie by her side. Bloomfield was Lauren's mum’s maiden name, a nod to the fierce women in her life and the wild patch of scrubland where they gather around the fire with a glass of something good.
