About the Winemakers

Unkel Wines, a tribute to the quintessential “cruisy, fun, slightly wild uncle in your life”, was started by Kate and Rob Burley in Australia in 2016. The couple began by sourcing organic fruit. They then acquired a lease for a 4.9-hectare vineyard in 2019 in Nelson’s Bronte Peninsula, New Zealand.

At Unkel, it’s all about letting nature take the lead. Kate and Rob's hands-off approach in the winery ensures each bottle is an honest expression of the land. Minimal intervention, organic practices, and a touch of wild, untamed spirit define their winemaking philosophy.
