About the Winemakers

Yoshiaki and Kyoko Sato are the wife-husband team behind Sato Wines, one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed natural wine producers. The couple left their successful careers in international banking to pursue their passion for wine, learning from some of the best winemakers in France and New Zealand.

In 2009, they launched their own label, sourcing organic grapes from various sites in Central Otago and crafting elegant, expressive wines with minimal intervention. In 2016, they established their own vineyard, La Ferme de Sato, where they grow Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc biodynamically.

Sato Wines are a reflection of the couple’s philosophy: “Watch carefully, just do what is necessary. Believe what the grapes originally have and the wines are trying to express by themselves.”
