About the Winemaker
Maddison Park-Neilson & Tony Zafirakos | Aristotelis ke Anthoula

Tony’s parents Aristotelis and Anthoula migrated from rural Greece in the early 80s, and started making wine for themselves in a garage in the beachside suburbs of Sydney. From the outset, the aim was to create delicious natural wine with no additives to keep the wines healthy and pure. They quietly made a few barrels, year after year, from hand picked grapes procured from the "box trade" at the markets in Western Sydney.

Tony convinced his parents to make it a commercial thing, and so in 2020, joined by his partner Maddison, they began managing their own vines. After careful research into varieties and trellising methods, they selected a range of varieties best suited to their home on the Far South Coast of NSW, where Aristotelis ke Anthoula now calls home. Akea has established relationships with growers across NSW - Murrumbateman, Hilltops, Goulburn, Gundagai, Griffith, and the Southern Highland.
