Off the beaten track varietals, to push your palate. No regrets!
November's Adventurous Wines 3-Pack Includes:
1. 2022 Silver Heights ‘The Last Warrior’ White Blend
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc | Ningxia, CHI | Emma Gao | Silver Heights
Bright, lively, and effortlessly drinkable, the 2022 Silver Heights The Last Warrior is a blend of near-equal parts Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc from Ningxia, China. Tropical fruits dominate... pineapple, peach, apricot, lychee, and pear, but that first whiff also carries the vegetal lift of Sauvignon Blanc, hinting at the wine’s freshness. Hand-picked, gently pressed, and slow-fermented in stainless steel with a splash of Burgundy oak, it skips malolactic fermentation to keep things crisp and energetic. Like most Silver Heights wines, it’s restrained and balanced, rewarding time in the glass: over 90 minutes, the aromas evolve beautifully. Named The Last Warrior in honor of the courage and tenacity of the Ningxia people, the wine’s label features a terracotta warrior... a visual story that matches the wine’s poise and elegance
2. NV Vine Venom ‘Skin’ No. 3
Chenin Blanc | Elgin, Swartland, RSA | Samantha Suddons | Vine Venom
'Skin' aka No.3 Chenin Blanc (my fav!) is an orange wine with a personality as bold as its colour. 100% Chenin, left on skins for 27 days, it’s a wild mix of Seville orange marmalade, baked peach, honey, and a hint of flor, all wrapped up in gentle tannins and a savoury, lingering finish. Fermented with native yeasts and aged 18 months in old oak, it’s textured, soulful, and endlessly intriguing... Perfect for anyone who loves a little adventure in their glass.
3. 2023 Bonnet Cotton ‘Fleurie’ AOP
Gamay | Fleurie, Beaujolais, FR | Marine Bonnet + Pierre Cotton | Bonnet Cotton
From the rolling pink granite slopes of Fleurie comes this dreamy Gamay from Marine Bonnet and Pierre Cotton, totally bright and floral. Juicy strawberries, crushed violets, and rose petals gliding over that signature Fleurie finesse. The fruit comes from 50-year-old vines in the Poncié vineyard, hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in whole bunches, then aged in old foudres that once held beer (seriously). Certified organic and made without fining, filtering, or added sulphur, it’s pure, high-toned Beaujolais magic.
